What to Expect

Deep Tissue Massage (DTM)

DTM can be uncomfortable for some people. Like Swedish massage, it employs five strokes, but the strokes for DTM are Very Different from those of a Swedish massage. It is NOT “Swedish, just push harder”.:

First, I’ll “run the fascia”, which will soften the superficial layers of connective tissue that surround all muscles. Next, I’ll do some Feathering / Separating to open muscle fibers, increases blood circulation to muscles that may have been blocked from receiving nutrients needed for repair. Then I’ll focus on specific and targeted to painful areas, by using compression; this may allow for therapeutic release of “stuck points” or “knots” of adhered muscle formed from tightly held tension. Where it’s needed, I’ll employ Cross Fiber Friction, a great technique that assists the body in breaking down scar tissue formed by adhesions. Finally, together we will stretch the musculature to “reprogram” areas of neurologically “shortened” muscle so that it can “remember” its true length.

    Himalayan salt massage stones produce negative ions, which may clean the air and create a deeper self of wellbeing by detoxifying and increasing the alkalinity of your body.
    The salt stones are heated, so the relaxation affects go deep into the muscle and joints.
    Salt is wonderful for your skin. Your skin will be left even more refreshed and moisturized compared to a conventional massage treatment.
    Negative ions are produced when heated creating a sense of peace and deeper sense of relaxation.

Sports Massage: AIS or PNF

Clients come dressed in T-Shirt and Shorts, or similar clothing that permits freedom of movement, and remain clothed for the entire session.

AIS: Active Isolated Stretching for Deep, Superficial Fascial Release

Performing an Active Isolated Stretch of no longer than two seconds allows the target muscles to optimally lengthen without triggering the protective stretch reflex and subsequent reciprocal antagonistic muscle contraction as the isolated muscle achieves a state of relaxation. These stretches provide maximum benefit and can be accomplished without opposing tension or resulting trauma.

PNF: Proprioceptive Neuromuscular Facilitation (PNF) is a more advanced form of flexibility training that involves both the stretching and contraction of the muscle group being targeted.

PNF stretching was originally developed as a form of rehabilitation, and to that effect it is very effective. It is also excellent for targeting specific muscle groups, and as well as increasing flexibility, it also improves muscular strength.
